Adventure

Monday afternoon in the office: Mandela guides a strong paddle crew through the right side of Horn Creek Rapids... a place called "Train Wreck". This is the shortest, yet steepest rapid in the Grand Canyon & the first rapid you run with me when you hike into the Grand Canyon on the Bright Angel Trail.
Mandela is an expedition sea kayak guide in Milford Sound, located on New Zealand's South Islands remote west coast.
A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor... I woke up a few days ago & knew that Lava's 37' drop was going to be extra spicy. After watching this you'll see why I train my paddlers how to paddle hard & get down for this rapid.
January 17, 1770: Lieutenant James Cook's crew caught the last vibration of primordial New Zealand - a land where bush grew to the water's edge & trees were filled from ground level to canopy with copious bird & insect life.
💦Thursday morning in the office was my final & 6th decent of Lava Falls this year. Most drops this season were in a paddle raft but for the past 15-days, I feathered an 18' - 2,500lb oar rig. I invite you to join me for a big ride...

Guiding sea kayaking expeditions, collecting sound effects & interviews in Milford Sound, the most northern fjord on New Zealand's South Island's remote west coast.
This was filmed hundreds of feet above the Colorado River near the prehistoric Nankoweap granaries. The oldest human artifacts found within the park are nearly 12,000 years old and date to the Paleo-Indian period. The archaeological site is a seed storage system used by native PuebloIan people who would have farmed in the delta below.
Behind the scenes of tonight's show... scuba diving with deep sea creatures in Fiordland, New Zealand. If you missed the premier on Sunday @ 6pm, tune in tonight at 10pm (MST) for an interview recorded in an 8mm wetsuit aboard the 'West Bay' with professional scuba diver & snowboarder, Lance Mckirdy.

Publicity

Mandela spends the day surfing and interviewing Frank, who came to New Zealand on a surf trip decades ago and never went home. Here are a few tips from Frank. www.traillesstraveled.net
Make sure you podcast this salt of the earth story from fishing off the remote & extremely isolated west coast of New Zealand. Featuring an interview with Possum, a hard working second generation crayfisherman on a 54' cray boat called, "The Southern Legend."
The Trail Less Traveled, hosted by Mandela, is dedicated to documenting humanity by gathering interviews and sound effects from the most remote locations around the world. The goal for the show is to take you, the listener, back to mankind's earliest form of entertainment: story telling.
Recording on location on New Zealand's South Island's remote west coast. The Trail Less Traveled is dedicated to collecting stories and sounds from the most remote locations around the world. I am truly honored to have completed my training & become a certified guide in Fiordland for New Zealand's best sea kayaking company.
Here's a glimpse of the craziest job I've ever had! In addition to guiding kayaking, I'm working part time as crew on the pilot boat in the Milford Sound. We pull alongside gargantuan cruise ships in the Tasman Sea & match speed at 20 knots while they lower a ladder & I help safely transfer the pilot.
Interviewing Rosco Gaudin on Mount Prospect above Te Anau overlooking Fiordland National Park on New Zealand's South Island's West Coast. Rosco races his custom built 4x4 trucks in enduro races. www.traillesstraveled.net
Heading back into the Canyon now for another 2-week expedition guiding big whitewater. I want you all to know that the adventure continues on "The Trail Less Traveled" every Sunday @6pm (MST) on 📻 The Trail 103.3 FM & streaming live at www.trail1033.com 🌍 check out the official website: www.traillesstraveled.net 🎧PODCAST is available on iTunes, Spotify, GooglePlay, iHeartRadio, Stitcher & SoundCloud!
Here's a sneak peak of this week's show recorded while floating in the middle of The Milford Sound in Fiordland National Park. Featuring Callum Morrison, my fellow sea kayak guide & owner of a costume river & culture tour company in Nepal.
🌍Expedition update: After a 5 minute helicopter flight from the Tasman Sea, this week's show was recorded on a hanging glacier in the Southern Alps. Featuring glaciology of the planet with a focus on Franz Josef Glacier. Recorded on moving ice while trekking on the west coast of New Zealand's South Island.
